Chen Hsin An

Financial Services Consultant

Story

I first joined the industry when I was a university year 1 student. Like many others, I joined the industry to “try out” the career to see if it is a good fit for me.

When I joined my first agency back then, I did not know much about the importance of our role as financial consultants, to me it was just about selling plans that are “useful” to people.

And if you were to ask me exactly how the plans would help the customers, my honest answer would be “I don’t know”.

I was not confident of my competency back then, and I did not want to reach out to my friends because I did not want to give them the wrong advice and lose them as friends.

I picked up digital marketing so I could acquire business online, but I was still not confident of myself as a financial consultant.

That is when I told myself that – if I cannot convince myself as a financial consultant that I would want to work with for my financial planning, why would other people be convinced to work with me?

I started taking up more lessons, searching up on information on all the topics that we needed to learn. I went to take up an additional certification and gathered all the information that is needed to know for financial planning and compiled them into a book which I used to share with my friends and clients about the importance of financial literacy.

The whole process took about a year, but that is when I really feel like I finally know what I am doing.

Till date, I am still learning, but I would say I am a much more competent financial
consultant than who I used to be, and I am comfortable reaching out to my friends to share more about what I do.

To me, it is never really about whether this job is suitable for me, it is more of whether I want this job to be suitable for me.

I am excited to see what this journey is going to bring in the years to come, my name is Hsin An, and I am here to guide you through life’s adventure.
