My Personal Story

Growing up, my siblings and I never asked for much. I felt we were very blessed already despite being a low-income family. We had a small roof over our heads and my dad worked hard to put food on our table.

We were contented with what we had.

However, reality hit one day when my dad’s blood was rejected for blood donation. Upon further medical checks, he was diagnosed with cancer. To make matters worse, he did not have any medical insurance to cover the medical bills.

When my parents saw the bill, they went into a state of panic. It was too much to afford. After much deliberation, they could only arrive at one solution to pay for the hospital bill … we had to sell the house.

On top of that, my parents were not the most financially literate and their retirement planning was still the traditional method of working till even beyond their fifties.

With the house gone and their income affected, their retirement seemed like an even larger hurdle.

I guess anyone in their situation would ask ‘what if’? But my philosophy life is always to find solutions and not dwell on the problem.

From that incident, I told myself that I need to get proper coverage when I start working to be protected from these unforeseen circumstances and to be able to achieve financial stability and freedom.

That was when I approached Leonard where he shared with me more about financial planning and I had a 180 degree change of my impression of financial advisors.

Leonard took the time to understand my needs and my budget, then he recommended me various solutions that would best suit me.

With all that, I made a resolute decision to join this industry with the following 3 reasons:

 1. To prevent people around me from being caught in my parents’ situation

 2. To raise awareness and education of proper financial planning

 3. To guide people, especially the ones I care most about, to achieve financial freedom
